Fiddlehead Boatworks was founded in a cabinet shop in Bradford, VT in 1991 by Mike Collins.  The object was the restoration of wood / canvas canoes drawing on customers from all over New England.  A line of custom built 14′ tortured ply canoes and wide 17′ wood / canvas recurved stem canoes, reminiscent of those used in Vermont  summer camps, was next on the production list.  In search of greener pastures, Mike, the wife and kids moved to Maryland in 1995 aboard their 60′ Belamy trawler.

 

Next step was Mike’s fortuitous introduction to Winston Kinard and Fiddlehead Boatworks became a partnership in 1997.  What a long strange trip it has been!

 

Fiddlehead Boatworks performs all manner of yacht system repairs, upgrades, installation and maintenance. Sailboat rigging, electrical and electronic installations take up most of our time.  Still willing to travel and ascend riggs wherever the yacht is located, we are always waiting for the next challenge.  We are proud of our personal service to our owners.  In many respects our customers become almost family as we take care of their problems (mostly boat related)).  Some folks have brought 3 or 4 generations of boats to us for continued service.

 

Currently we operate out of our shop at the Bacon Sails and Marine Equipment warehouse off West St. in the Design District of Annapolis.  Bacons has been very instrumental in our growing customer base and we can be found there at all hours of the day and night fabricating and repairing components necessary for the active and safe operation of all manner of yachts.
